ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
The Permanent Committee for the Promotion of the Michele Pittaluga International Guitar Competition, Città di Alessandria Prize, is organizing the 43rd International Guitar Competition for both ancient and modern works for 6 strings classical guitar.
Soloists of all nationalities are admitted to the competition, provided that they were not born before 1st January 1980.

ENROLMENT
Applications for enrolment must be sent to the Comitato Promotore Concorso Chitarra Classica «Michele Pittaluga» - Piazza Garibaldi 16 - 15121 Alessandria (Italy).
The following documents should be sent with the application form:
a) A photocopy of an identity document (passport, driving licence, etc.).
b) Two recent, medium sized pictures (10 cms x 15 cms).
c) Curriculum vitae, details of any prizes received, with documentation and certificates concernung to courses and studies followed, concert programmes, critical reviews and any other relevant documents.
Registration can only take place by mailing the documents required, including the registration form signed by the candidate. The inscription can be sent in advance by e-mail using the downloadable form from the site: www.pittaluga.org.
The composition of the Jury will be communicated to the press and to contestants who have completed their enrolment.

ENROLMENT FEE
The enrolment fee of € 100 (one hundred euro) net, must be received no later than 31st August 2010.
The enrolment fee is not refundable.

PROGRAMME

First round (qualifying round):
A programme of minimum 20 minutes and maximum 22 minutes, free choice of the contestants including the piece:
– LUIGI LEGNANI, Capriccio n. 7 from 36 Caprices op. 20 - ECH 440 - Chanterelle Verlag.
A copy of the pieces chosen should be consigned to the Jury.

Second round (semifinal):
A programme of minimum 40 minutes and maximum 43 minutes with free choice of pieces (excluding those performed during the first round) and at least one work chosen from the following:
– MIGUEL LLOBET, Variaciones sobre un Tema de Sor, Chanterelle Verlag - ECH
5001 - Special edition for Pittaluga Guitar Competition;
– FERNANDO SOR, Introduction et Variations sur un thème de Mozart op. 9
Chanterelle Verlag - ECH 5101 - Special edition for Pittaluga Guitar Competition.

Final round
One concerto, chosen by the candidate, select from the following:
– LEO BROUWER: Concerto Elegiaco, Ed. Max Eschig;
– H. VILLA LOBOS: Concerto pour guitare et petite orchestre, Ed. Max Eschig;
– M. CASTELNUOVO TEDESCO: Concerto in RE, Ed. Schott;
– M. M. PONCE: Concerto del Sur, , Peer Musikverlag;

IMPORTANT - In the qualifying, semifinal and final round, the pieces will have to be played by heart. For the compulsory pieces the contestants should refer to the the recommended editions.
The mark of the Jury will take into account the quality of the chosen transcriptions and the variety of style of the free programme. The contestants should also send to the Secretary of the Competition their programme and a copy of the unpublished pieces with the enrolment application no later than 31st August 2010. Corrections and supplements to the programme will be accepted until 10 September.

COMPETITION PROCEDURE
a) The competition will run from 26 September to 2 October 2010.
b) On Monday 26th September 2010 at 9.00 am (location to be announced) there will be a meeting of all the guitarists during which the jury will be presented and the contestants will be informed on the time of the qualifying round.
c) At the qualifying round, each contestant must produce a valid document of identification.
d) The qualifying round, the semifinal and the final will be open to the public.

THE JURY
a) The International Jury will consist of at least seven members, of different nationalities and of established reputation in the music world; the majority of them are not Italian. Honorary President: Mr. Alirio Diaz. Representatives of the Italian Ministry for Culture (MBC), and those of the WFIMC of Geneva will be allowed to assist the Jury without taking part in the voting.
b) The following are not allowed to form part of the International Jury: any relative or friend of any of the contestants: anyone who is teaching or who has privately taught any contestant within the last two years; members of the Jury who are teaching at a public school at present or who have taught any of the contestants in the last two years must refrain from discussions and abstain from voting for their own students / contestants. This abstention shall be recorded in the minutes. In compliance with this, when the Jury is being sworn in each member shall make a statement as to his/personal position concerning the contestant. During this first meeting the jury will read the internal rules of the contest and sign the judgment method.
c) If one or more of the members of the Jury are unable to attend the competition, they will be replaced with jurors selected by the organizing committee.
d) The International Jury may bring forward of postpone the starting time of the rounds if there are valid reason.
e) A competitor’s performance may be interrupted at any moment by the jury.

ADMISSION TO THE FINAL
a) The selection of the semifinalists to be admitted to the final (three at maximum) will be made by the jury, and will be based on a simple majority of votes. Jury’s decision will be final.
b) In the event of an exceptionally complex result in the evaluation of the finalists, the jury may request all or some of them to play additional pieces.
c) In the event of a tie, the vote of the President will be decisive.
d) All participants admitted to the first round (qualifying round) and to the second round (semifinal) must accept, without appeal, the decision of the International Jury, even regarding admission to the final or the awarding of the prizes.
Winners intending to publicize their results shall specifically mention the prize awarded, fully respecting the official decisions of the Jury.
e) There will be three rehearsals before the final with orchestra.

RULES FOR THE AWARDING OF PRIZES
a) The first prize cannot be shared. In special cases the International Jury may award remaining prizes equally. All the prizes will be awarded in the final round. Prizes offered by other organizations can be awarded to participants at jury’s discretion.
b) All semifinalists not admitted to the final will receive travel reimbursements of a max of € 250 (two hundred and fifty euro) after presentation of documentation. This refund can be given on demand before the end of the contest. The semifinalists must be available for those academic or social activities that might be generated as a consequence of the guitar competition.
c) Those contestants who have won a 1st, or a 2nd prize in an important international guitar competition may obtain, at the discretion of the Permanent Organizing Committee and considering the available funds, the refund of accomodation expenses in a Bed and Breakfast for the period they actively compete. In accordance with this, the contestants should send a request for free accomodation and the documentation of the prize won with the registration form. This request must be done by the first day of the competition and not later. Candidates who request reimbursement for the first time will have precedence.

PRIZES
1st PRIZE: € 13000 (thirteen thousand euro) (€ 6000 competition prize, € 2500 Luciano Ghione prize and € 4500 Naxos Contract award), medal of the President of the Republic, silver plaque of the Organizing Committee, concert tour in Italy and other countries, Gioventù Musicale Prize, photo book by Minasso.
2st PRIZE: € 4500 (four thousand and five hundred euro) (€ 3000 competition prize and € 1500 Luciano Ghione prize), silver plaque of the Organizing Committee.
3st PRIZE: € 2500 (two thousand and five hundred euro) (€ 1500 competition prize and € 1000 Luciano Ghione prize), silver plaque of the Organizing Committee.
– All semifinalists and finalists will receive an Honorary Diploma.

The Berlin 2010 International Guitar Competition & Festival will be held October 15th to 17th, 2010 at Glaskasten Ballsaal (Ballroom), Prinzenallee 33, 13359, Berlin. This year's festival includes Concerts, Master Classes, and Guitar Competition.

Competition
The International Guitar Competition in Berlin will be conducted from october 15th to 17th 2010.
The competition is open to guitarists of all nations not older than 32 years.
The competition consists of two public rounds.

he competition is open to all ages and will be held in three rounds.

Round 1 (8 minutes):

  • set piece: any etude from H. Villa-Lobos (free choice)
  • plus a piece of free choice

Round 2 (15 minutes) (~ 25 participants)

  • set piece: minimum one or more movements of any of the sonatas or suites for all instruments by J. S. Bach (free choice - all trascriptions allowed).
  • plus a piece of free choice.The second round could also only be Bach pieces.

Round 3 (25 - 30 minutes) (maximum 5 participants)

  • free program, no repetition from the first two rounds.

COMPETITION

The competition comprises two rounds. A maximum of 5 participants will be chosen to play in the final round.

             a guitar by guitar-maker Franziska Kössl, value of 6.000 €
             a concert during the Festival 2012
2nd prize 2.000 €
3rd prize 1.000 €

Participation fee:
No fee for course participants who registered for one of the all-inclusive-packages or course nr. 1. Other participants will be charged 200,- €.

Rules:
1. All decisions of the Competition Jury will be final .
2. Contestants must be born in or after 1975 .
3. repertoire:
   1st round: a program of free choice (8-10 minutes).
   Final round: a program of free choice and one obligatory piece:
   Ballada from "Dues Suggestions", op. 23 by Salvador Brotons.
   Total playing time 20 minutes.
4. The pieces from the 1st round must not be repeated in the final round.
5. The original language of these rules is German. Any disagreements arising from them will be resolved by reference to the German text.
